Essential Plugins

These are WordPress plugins that enhance, secure and improve the functionality to your WordPress website.

Other people have put together their own list of basic essential plugins. They list some of the same ones here, you will have to decide for yourself which list or combination of plugins work best for your intended end result.

WordFence

WordFence  is my favorite security plugin. Not because it is free, but because it alerts me when someone or thing starts banging on my website. 

Contact Form 7

Contact Form 7  gives you an easy way to put a contact for on your website. It is easy to setup and works very well with most themes.

All in One SEO Pack

For you who don’t know SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. In this little plugin are the tools get you the best possible ranking with Google, Bing and the other search engines. All in One SEO Pack 

All-in-One WP Migration

All-in-One WP Migration is a plugin that serves two functions. It backups all the files and the database. In addition it makes migrating a website from one host to another easy. 

Coming Soon & Maintenance Mode

Coming Soon & Maintenance Mode is another dual purpose plugin. I use it to build interest in a website that is about to be launched. Also I puts a curtain over the website as maintence is being done. 

Smush Image Compression

Pictures and graphic will slow the load time of a webssite quicker than peanut butter. Smush Image Compression takes those pictures and images and compresses them to as small of a file size as possible without losing quality.

WP Super Cache

WP Super Cache is another little plugin that will help you website as a whole to load faster. There are a lot of plugin on the WordPress.org website that does cache. This happens to be my favorite. 

Google XML Sitemaps

Google XML Sitemaps  is what Google reads to rank you. Without it you will find it is harder to get noticed. 

Social Media Share Buttons

Social Media Share Buttons put button along you post, and webpages to remind them they should share your content with their family and friends. 

Really Simple SSL

Really Simple SSL may not be an essential plugin by the end of the years. However, if you are bringing a website from http to https this little plugin will save you a lot of time and headache.

Advance Plugins

As WordPress increased in popularity, the number of plugins have increased. Many of them do the same if not similar function.

When it comes to the plugins that perform the more advance functions, they are a little slower in being developed and refined.

Below, in my opinion the best of those plugins and what they are designed to do.

Paid Membership Portal

For a paid membership portal there seems to be a demand for this type of plugin. As of this writing the old standard plugins for this function is being over shadowed the new ones I have listed below. 

 

Special Functions

These plugins makes the WordPress webmaster job easier. He or she may not need them on every website, but they are there.

  • File Manager – Gives you access to the server files from the WordPress control panel
  • Max Mega Menu – Ever wish you could had more features to the existing menus. Now you have it.
  • Hustle – Pop-Ups, Slide-ins – Here is a relativily easy plugin for adding popup windows and sliders to your website.
  • WP Content Copy Protection– Want to protrect your pictures or other content from being stolen and used elsewhere. This plugin is for you.
  • PDF Embedder– Just what it says, embed PDF’s into the content of your website.
WooCommerce

There is not just one plugin here to run an online store. There several with works with the others. You may be get by with some of these but you will lose features and functionality.
